INTECH

The Chascomús Technological Institute (INTECH) was founded in 1989 at the initiative of the then President of Argentina, Dr. Raúl R. Alfonsín, with funding from the United Nations. The original idea was to create an Institute working on agricultural production, and two Nobel Prize winners, Dr. Luis Federico Leloir and Dr. César Milstein, collaborated on its design and structure. Its first director was Dr. Rodolfo Ugalde, who also participated in the Institute's creation.

In 1995, the Institute became an Executive Unit of CONICET (National Institute of Technology and Technology), and Dr. Alberto Iglesias was appointed director, who established his research group at the Institute.

A key moment in INTECH's history occurred in 1999 when, through an agreement between CONICET and UNSAM, the Institute of Biotechnology Research-Chascomús Technological Institute (IIB-INTECH) was created. This resulted from the merger of both institutes with two locations, one in the district of San Martín and the other in the city of Chascomús, Province of Buenos Aires (Resolution D. No. 1215). At that time, Dr. Alberto Carlos C. Frasch was appointed director, serving until he resigned on October 1, 2017, to become Vice-Rector of UNSAM.

INTECH's current structure was defined by Resolution 2048/2018, creating the Chascomús Technological Institute as an Executing Unit under the dual authority of CONICET and UNSAM. The same resolution establishes that the interfering is incorporated into the group of executing units administered by the Territorial Administration Unit (UAT) of the CCT CONICET-La Plata.

Structure

Due to the double dependence that marks the aforementioned agreement, the interfere depends on the Scientific and Technological Development Management of CONICET and the Vice -Rectorate of the UNSAM in research and teaching issues.
The institute is dedicated to scientific research in biochemistry, molecular biology, cell biology, neurobiology, microbiology, immunology and aquatic ecology among others. The objective of the institute is to carry out research, teaching, development and innovation tasks in the area of biotechnology in all its meanings. This knowledge is applied in agricultural, biological and health areas. In addition, first level scientists are formed and numerous research of relevance and international recognition is carried out.
Currently, INTECH is managed by a Board of Directors chaired by Director Dr. Leandro Miranda and Vice Director Dr. Fernando Pieckenstain.
The Board of Directors (BC) is composed of four researchers, one representative of the technical and administrative staff, and one representative of the fellows. All of these members are elected by vote of the groups they represent.
